People go to other countries by flight, but you can go to other countries by train in some places. Let us study the train routes in India that take you straight to another country.

1. MAITREE EXPRESS

If you want to go to Bangladesh then you can easily go by train. Maitri Express is an international border train connecting Bangladesh's capital Dhaka to Kolkata in India. This is such a railway link between India and Bangladesh, which runs six days a week in each direction. This train covers a distance of about 375 km in less than 9 hours. The train also crosses two major river crossings, the 100-year-old Hardinge Bridge over the Padma River and the Bangabandhu Bridge over the Jamuna River. Both river crossings are in Bangladesh. Ticket booking for this train is done from Kolkata and requires and valid Bangladesh Visa.

2. BANDHAN EXPRESS

The journey between India and Bangladesh is also decided by this train, in fact, it is the second train connecting India-Bangladesh. Inaugurated in 2017 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi this is an international express train service that runs weekly linking the Indian city of Kolkata and the Bangladeshi city of Khulna. A valid visa and passport are a must before buying a Bandhan Express train ticket. Tickets are available at Khulna railway station in Bangladesh and Chitpur station in Kolkata, India. The train stops at Jessore for 3 minutes to pick up the passengers. The Bandhan Express is the first train to connect Kolkata and Khulna after the Barisal Express, which was stopped in 1965 due to the Indo-Pakistani War.

3. MITALI EXPRESS

It is an international express train service that connects two cities of India, Jalpaiguri and Siliguri, with Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, every week. The two Prime Ministers of the two neighboring countries officially inaugurated the ten-coach non-stop passenger train on the new approximately 513 km route from Dhaka on March 2021, the day Bangladesh celebrated the Golden Jubilee of its independence. It is mandatory to have a valid visa and passport in advance to buy a Mithali Express train ticket.

4. SAMJHAUTA EXPRESS

It is a bi-weekly train i.e., runs twice a week. It operates between Delhi and Attari in India and Lahore in Pakistan. It was started for the first time in 1976 and till 1994 it used to be a daily running train. The ticket for this train can be taken from Attari Junction in Amritsar but for this, it is necessary to have a valid visa from Pakistan. This train stops only at Wagah station in Punjab. This service was suspended in 2019 till further announcement due to growing tensions between India and Pakistan.

5. THAR LINK EXPRESS

It is an international passenger train that runs between Bhagat ki Kothi, a suburb of Jodhpur in the Indian state of Rajasthan, and Karachi Cantonment, Karachi, in the Pakistani province of Sindh. The name of this train is derived from the Thar Desert, a subcontinental desert, which is located in the northwestern part of the Indian subcontinent. This is the second train after Samjhauta Express for direct connectivity between India and Pakistan. The Thar Express was cancelled in 2019, till further announcement due to growing tensions between India and Pakistan.
