Independence Day will be celebrated in the third week of August. On this special occasion, there is a holiday everywhere in India. Everyone is fond of traveling, but due to the busy lifestyle, it is very difficult to find time to travel. If you also do not want to be bored sitting at home during this Independence Day holiday, then you can club your holidays for the 12th (Saturday), 13th (Sunday), 14th (Monday), and 15th (Tuesday) and plan to visit these places where you can make your Independence Day holiday memorable. So, let's know about these destinations.

1. KHAJURAHO TEMPLE

Khajuraho is a famous tourist destination in India. This is an ancient temple located in Chhatarpur district of Madhya Pradesh. This temple is known for its erotic sculptures among tourists from all over the world. Tourists get mesmerized by seeing the carvings and beautiful paintings here. Due to the grandeur, beauty, and antiquity of this temple, it has been included in the World Heritage Sites.

2. CHIKMAGALUR

Chikmagalur is a major district of Karnataka state, India. Apart from being a major district of Karnataka, it is also known as a great tourist place. Lush green mountains, beautiful waterfalls, rivers, mythological temples and buildings, trekking places, etc. are found here, which attract tourists from far and wide.

3. CHITTORGARH

The glorious city of Chittorgarh situated in Rajasthan is famous for its rich culture and heritage. Chittorgarh was once the capital of the Sisodia dynasty of Mewar, which boasts of its great emperor. If you are a history lover and even if some similar places attract a lot, then Chittorgarh is the best place to visit. 

4. BIKANER

Bikaner is considered to be one of the magnificent tourist destinations of Rajasthan. This city is famous all over the world for its civilization, culture, and historical forts. Junagarh Fort located in Bikaner is the center of attraction. Apart from this, Karni Mata Temple which is also known as Rat Temple near Bikaner is also a great place to visit. 

5. SHILLONG

Shillong, situated at an altitude of 1,491 meters above sea level, is the capital of Meghalaya and is also a famous hill station. This is the first such hill station in the country, where it can be reached from all sides. Let us tell you, Shillong was named after the deity U-Shyllong. Shillong is not less than any Scotland because of its beauty.

6. CHAIL

Chail is another beautiful hill station located in the Solan district of Himachal Pradesh. Once upon a time, this hill station used to be the capital of Maharaja Bhupendra Singh, where he used to come for the summer holidays. Natural beauty is scattered all around here too. The distance from Chandigarh to Chail is 104 km.

7. LONAVALA

Lonavala is a famous tourist destination of Maharashtra which is located between Mumbai and Pune. The cool climate, serene atmosphere, and clean air here make Lonavala a perfect holiday destination. Away from the hustle and bustle of the city, this hill station offers a fresh, pollution-free climate throughout the year to make your holiday even more memorable. 

8. JAIPUR

Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, experiences less heat in August. During this one can easily roam here. If you like to see and know about forts, palaces, and historical heritage, then Jaipur is a good option for you. There are many places to see in Jaipur like Amer Fort, Hawa Mahal, Jal Mahal, and Nahargarh Fort. 

9. GIR NATIONAL PARK

Gir National Park is located in Gujarat, which is also known as Sasan Gir National Park. Spread over an area of 1412 square kilometers, Gir National Park is the only national park in India that is home to the Asiatic lion. Gir National Park was established in the year 1965 and was declared a "National Park", which is mainly famous for Asiatic lions.

10. BODH GAYA

The name of Bodh Gaya comes from the most famous tourist place in Bihar, which is a Hindu pilgrimage center. This place is also recognized as a Buddhist pilgrimage site. It is believed that Gautam Buddha attained enlightenment under a tree here. Gaya has many temples and historical sites.
