1. ROGAN JOSH
Rogan Josh
is one of the famous dishes of Jammu and Kashmir, especially for the people of
Jammu and Kashmir and non-vegetarian lovers. Rogan Josh is an aromatic lamb
curry with various spices, curd, and brown onions. If you are
a non-vegetarian, you cannot resist trying one of the best
Kashmiri dishes, Rogan Josh. This is a very low-fat dish. It is eaten with rice
or naan.
2. KASHMIRI GAAD
Kashmiri
Gaad is a special dish prepared on special occasions and festivals in December in Kashmir. This dish usually consists of fish prepared with radish
or nadur. It is a mixture of vegetarian and non-vegetarian items which gives it
a unique taste while the hot spices and herbs add to the flavour. It is served
about 1 hour after it is made so that it settles well.
3. MODUR PULAO
Modur Pulao
is the most favorite food of Jammu and Kashmir especially if you like
vegetarian food. Modur Pulao is not like the common Pulao, it is quite
different from the common Pulao, it is prepared with milk, saffron, ghee, and
cinnamon and later the rice is cooked with dry fruits like almonds, cashew nuts, and raisins. Saffron is the main ingredient in Modur Pulao, as it is grown in
Kashmir only. This is a popular Kashmiri dish for vegetarian people and people
who like sweets, which is very much liked by the local people as well as the
tourists coming here.
4. DUM OLAV
If you want
to taste the real authentic Kashmiri cuisine, then you must try Dum Aloo once
during your trip to Jammu and Kashmir, believe me, after eating it, you will
never forget its taste. In Dum Aloo, potatoes are cooked in curd, ginger paste,
fennel seeds, and hot spices and eaten with roti or naan roti. Despite being so
simple and straightforward, Dum Aloo is quite high on the list of famous
Kashmiri foods, which can be gauged from its popularity.
5. BUTTER TEA
Originating
from Tibet, butter tea is one of the famous and staple dishes of Kashmir.
Butter and salt are added to tea to prepare this delicious delicacy. To add
more flavor and taste, some locals may also add yak meat to it. Butter tea
makes the winter mornings of Jammu and Kashmir more special and you can start
your day with a cup of butter tea.
6. WAZWAN
Kashmir is
very famous for its beautiful valleys, pashmina shawl, saffron, dry fruits,
rogan josh, kahwa, and many more things. One of them is ‘Wazwan’. It is a
multiple-course meal of 36 dishes. It has both veg and non-veg dishes which is majorly
served in Kashmiri weddings. Wazwan is the identity and culture of Kashmir,
making it considered a skill. It is also presented at Kashmiri food
festivals and reunions as well as at the international level.
