The 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva have great importance in Hinduism and these are located at 12 different places in the country. According to the Hindu religion, a person who visits all 12 Jyotirlingas, attains salvation after death and all his troubles and obstacles are removed. 1. SOMNATH JYOTIRLINGA, GUJARAT

Somnath Temple, located in the Saurashtra region of Gujarat state, is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. Somnath temple has been considered the first Jyotirlinga of the earth. From the very beginning, the Somnath Temple has been a symbol of the history of the rise and fall of Hinduism. Somnath is one of the most worshiped pilgrimage centers in the country. 

2. NAGESHWAR JYOTIRLINGA, GUJARAT

The temple of Nageshwar Jyotirlinga is situated on the coast of Saurashtra in Gujarat between Gomti Dwarka and Bait Dwarka. Nageshwar Jyotirlinga is the most popular Jyotirlinga among all the 12 Jyotirlingas. According to the legend of Nageshwar Jyotirlinga, Nageshwar is considered one of the most powerful 12 Jyotirlingas on this earth, which is a symbol of protection from all kinds of poisons. 

3. SHREE BHIMASHANKAR JYOTIRLING, MAHARASHTRA

Out of 12 Jyotirlingas, there are only 5 temples in the Maharashtra Jyotirlinga list and Shree Bhimashankar Jyotirling is one of them. Bhimashankar Temple is located at a distance of 110 km from the Pune district of Maharashtra which is also known as Moteshwar Temple. This temple is situated on a mountain named Suhadri. 

4. TRIMBAKESHWAR JYOTIRLINGA, MAHARASHTRA

Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga is the second Jyotirlinga among the five Jyotirlingas of Maharashtra and the third Jyotirlinga among the 12 Jyotirlingas of India. Trimbakeshwar Temple is located near the Brahmagiri mountain at a distance of 25 km from Nashik district. This mountain is known as the origin of the river Godavari, which is also known as the Gautami Ganga. Instead of a shrine, there is a pillar here, which has three pillars. These three pillars represent the most powerful and authoritative deities Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh. 

5. GRISHNESHWAR JYOTIRLINGA, MAHARASHTRA

A 5-storied Shikhara style structure with impressive red rock carvings of deities and the huge Nandi bull Ghrishneshwar temple in the main Durbar Hall is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas. This Jyotirlinga is located in Verul village near Ajanta and Ellora caves in Aurangabad. Built by Ahilyabai Holkar, this temple is also known as Grumeshwar and Kusumeshwar. Here the dashavatar idol of Vishnu carved on the red rock is the center of attraction. 

6. BABA BAIDYANATH JYOTIRLINGA, JHARKHAND

The Baba Baidyanath Temple in Deoghar, Jharkhand is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva, as well as one of the 52 Shaktipeeths of Mata Sati where the heart of Mata resides, this Shaktipeeth is known as Hadrapeeth. Baidyanath Jyotirlinga, also commonly known as Baidyanath Dham, is believed to be the holiest abode of Lord Shiva.

7. KEDARNATH JYOTIRLING, UTTARAKHAND

Kedarnath, located in the Rudra Himalayan Range in Uttaranchal state of India, is also one of the 12 Jyotirlingas and is considered one of the Char Dhams of Hinduism. Pilgrims visiting Kedarnath first go to Gangotri and Yamunotri to collect holy water, which they offer to the Kedarnath Shivling. Due to extremely cold weather and snowfall, this temple opens only for 6 months a year from May to June. 

8. KASHI VISWANATH JYOTIRLING, UTTAR PRADESH

Kashi Vishwanath, also known as the Golden Temple in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, is the most popular of the 12 Jyotirlingas in India. Built by Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar in 1780, this Jyotirlinga is an important religious place for Hindus. It is believed about this place that the Vishwanath temple will not sink even after the holocaust, but will remain like this. 

9. OMKARESHWAR JYOTIRLING, MADHYA PRADESH

Located near Indore in Madhya Pradesh, Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga is one of the most divine places in India. Out of 12 Jyotirlingas, there are 2 female Jyotirlingas in Madhya Pradesh, where the river Narmada flows and the flow of the river creates the shape of Om around the hill. This Jyotirlinga is actually in the shape of Om, which is why it is known as Omkareshwar. 

10. MAHAKALESHWAR JYOTIRLING, MADHYA PRADESH

The Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga located in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh has great spiritual significance. This Jyotirlinga is one of the popular twelve Jyotirlingas of Central India. It is told about this temple that the temple was built by a five-year-old boy Shrikar. The Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga situated on the banks of the Kshipra River is situated among the seven places of liberation in India. 

11. RAMESWARAM JYOTIRLING, TAMIL NADU

Jyotirlinga of Rameshwaram is worshiped in the form of southern Jyotirlinga in the country. This Jyotirlinga is situated on Rameswaram Island in Tamil Nadu. Lord Rama is believed to have worshiped this Jyotirlinga after killing Ravana. Rameshwaram Jyotirlinga is one of the twelve most worshiped Jyotirlingas in India and is also one of the Char Dhams of India.

12. MALLIKARJUNA JYOTIRLINGA, ANDHRA PRADESH

Mallikarjuna Jyotirlinga located in Andhra Pradesh is also known as Kailash of the South. This Jyotirlinga is situated on the Shri Shail Mountain on the banks of the Krishna River. The temple of Mallikarjuna is known for the deities of Shiva and Parvati. It comes in the count of 12 Jyotirlingas and it is also one of the 52 Bhakti Peethas of Sati.
