The colorful and the tinkling of glass bangles reminds us of Firozabad city which is located on a stretch of about 47 km from Agra and around 260 km from Delhi. Recognized as the glass city of India and the city of bangles – Firozabad in Uttar Pradesh has been manufacturing glass bangles for more than 200 years. Put together by Tughlaq king, Feroz Shah Tughlaq this city is prominent for bangles and several other glass objects like glasses, vases, and even the headlights of vehicles. Firozabad is the leading manufacturer of glass bangles in the world and is a family trade with conventional procedures being conceded from generations. Glass-making is a family skill here as the people earn their daily bread from bangle-making for ages.

How bangles are made –

A heap of sand which is rich in Mica is combined with various chemicals and put in a furnace known as ‘bhainsa bhatti’ to melt where the heat goes up to 1500 degrees. Then the raw glass is merged with the color again heated in the furnace. After the color is mixed

As soon as the color is mixed, the glass is taken out with the help of a long metal stick and immediately the worker starts giving it a conical shape otherwise it starts hardening the moment it is out of the kiln. After this, the chunk of colored glass goes into a different furnace, again with the help of an elongated metal stick. Now, a little spot of it is revolved above a duct which decides the diameter of the bangle.

After this, every roll is cut in a straight line with the use of a diamond tool and is joined and beautified with various embellishments work and is reached to the market of Firozabad, where they are sold in wholesale.
