INDIAs FIRST INTERNATIONAL TRAIN SERVICE
The network
of Indian Railways has spread to every corner of the country. Hence train
travel is opted for to travel across the country at a low cost. That's why we
opt for a plane to go out of the country. But now Indian Railways has given the
good news for the passengers. According to this, the first international train
service will be started by Indian Railways. International train service will be
started soon between India and Bhutan. This train will run from India's Assam
to the neighboring country. This train is being started with the aim of
improving tourism between the two countries. This potential railway connection
is also expected to significantly enhance trade and tourism ties between the
two neighboring countries. India's Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar gave
information in this regard. He also said that we are looking forward to
welcoming the Bhutanese railway passengers. Jaishankar has also focused on
border infrastructure, including the border with China, in the last nine years.
Dr. S.
Jaishankar emphasized that the Modi government has given priority to the
development of border areas with the aim of facilitating seamless trade and
connectivity. One of the major initiatives discussed was the proposed railway
link from Gelphu to Kokrajhar, which lies on the Assam-Bhutan border. Additionally,
the Minister addressed the challenges posed by the internal situation in
Myanmar, which has affected various infrastructure projects including the
Trilateral Highway Initiative involving India, Myanmar, and Thailand. The
Trilateral Highway Project is envisioned as a key driver of regional
connectivity. Jaishankar said the turmoil in Myanmar has created hurdles in
ongoing infrastructure efforts, especially the section of the Trilateral
Highway that is under construction, along with the construction of 69 bridges.
The survey
has been completed in April 2023 to start the construction of the railway line
between India and Bhutan. As Bhutan Live reports, the railway line will connect
Gelephu in Bhutan and Kokrajhar in Assam, India. The construction of this 57 km
long rail link is expected to be completed by 2026. Funds for this will be made
available by the Government of India. It was told that the train on this route
will be operated by the North East Frontier (NF) Railway.
Once
completed, it will be the first railway connection between India and Bhutan and
is expected to be completed by 2026. In April this year, Bhutan's Foreign
Minister Dr. Tandi Dorji said that the Bhutanese government would first
work on this project and then consider adding other areas such as Samtse,
Phuentsholing, Nganglam, and Samdrupjongkhar. Earlier, Bhutan Live had said in
a report that the survey to start the construction of the railway link between
India and Bhutan was completed in April 2023 and the railway link will connect
Gelephu in Bhutan and Kokrajhar in Assam, India. This step can contribute
significantly to the economic development of the North Eastern states of India
and West Bengal. It remains to be seen how these initiatives will pan out and
contribute to the overall socio-economic scenario of the region.
