OLDEST MOVIE THEATRES

Theatre. Indian cinema is very much liked worldwide

1. CHAPLIN CINEMA, KOLKATA
Chaplin Cinema was founded by Jamsetji
Framji Madan in 1907. At that time its name was Elphinstone Picture Palace.
This is the first cinema hall in India. At that time, Uttam Kumar's father used
to run the projector in this theatre or theatre. After some time, it was also
known as Minerva Cinema Hall.
The theater's condition deteriorated
over the decades before the Kolkata Municipal Corporation overhauled it and
renamed it, Chaplin, in the 1980s. In 2013, the Kolkata Municipal Corporation
demolished the Chaplin Cinema Theater due to being closed for several years.
2. CAPITOL CINEMA, MUMBAI
Capitol Cinema is one of the oldest
theaters in Mumbai. Capitol Cinema was once a hotspot for gothic movie playhouses. And now there is a place for B-grade Hindi films. Capitol Cinema has
seen many eras of cinema. The area dates back to 1879 and the first film to be
screened here was a British film called 'The Flag Lieutenant'. The Capitol
Cinema is also a heritage grade II Victorian structure built in 1879.
3. SAFIRE THEATRE, CHENNAI
Safire Theater Complex is
India's first largest multi-theatre complex, located in the southern city of
Chennai. The theater complex on Mount Road (now Anna Salai) comprises three
screening halls, Safire, Blue Diamond, and Emerald. Let us tell you that Safire
Theater is also India's first 70 mm theater.
4. REGAL CINEMA, DELHI
Regal Cinema is a theater that was
built in 1932 and was the largest theater in New Delhi. Regal was a premium
place for Bollywood and Hollywood films. The Indian premiere of the Academic
Award-winning 'Gone with the Wind' was also held at Regal in 1940. Films
related to Raj Kapoor and Nargis also used to premiere in this theater.
5. POORNA THEATRE, VIZAG
This hall was started in 1925 as Shri
Krishna Touring Talkies. But after five years it was renamed Poorna Theatre.
This was the time when there was only electricity in Visakhapatnam. Initially,
only silent films were played in this theatre. Movies like Bheeshma Pratijna,
Nandanaar, and Gajendra Moksham were played in it. The 1949 classic film Laila
Majnu was also screened here. This is the first theater in the entire Andhra
region, where a cinema-scope facility was provided. This hall is going to be 100
soon.
6. SAMRAT CINEMA, JAIPUR
Samrat Cinema is one such place for
movie lovers in India's Pink City Jaipur, which not only gives you the option
of watching popular Bollywood movies but also gives you a chance to watch some
long-running movies. Local and Indian culture has been incorporated into this
theater which makes it unique from others. The history of this theater itself
is very old.
