Holi also known as the festival of colors, is a spring festival celebrated on Phalgun Purnima which occurs around the month of March. Holi is such a festival in which we apply colors on each other, due to which mutual love and brotherhood increase, that is why it is also known as the festival of love. 1. BASANT UTSAV, SHANTINIKETAN

This festival of Holi is celebrated in a very different way in Shantiniketan, West Bengal, which is known as Basant Utsav or Spring Festival. The festival was started by famous Bengali poet and Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore as an annual event to perpetuate the ancient tradition.

2. FOLK HOLI, PURULIA

Folk Holi, celebrated in the Purulia district of West Bengal, is celebrated quite differently from other parts of India and according to the customs. It is a 3-day celebration that lasts from three days before Holi to the day of Holi, where you can enjoy a wide variety of unique folk arts along with local people playing and singing Holi.

3. HOLI OF KUMAON, KUMAON REGION

Culturally rich Kumaon bathes itself in an atmosphere of color in Holi. Kumaoni Holi is broad of three types – Baisakhi Holi, Khadi Holi (Khadi), and Mahila Holi. In Baisakhi Holi, devotees sing classical ragas to please Lord Krishna. Women's Holi is also similar to Baisakhi Holi, here only women are included in the crowd. Khadi Holi refers to the gathering of the townspeople who sing in unison.

4. HOLA MOHALLA, ANANDPUR SAHIB

Hola Mahalla is the biggest festival celebrated in Anandapur which is celebrated with great pomp and gaiety by the local people. Hola Mohalla is an annual fair dating back to 1701, which was first organized by the 10th Sikh Guru Gobind Singh to celebrate Holi. Instead of throwing colors in this festival, martial skills are displayed in mock battles.

5. ROYAL HOLI, JAIPUR AND UDAIPUR

Jaipur and Udaipur are one of the best places to visit on Holi in India because here Holi is celebrated in a completely different royal style from other parts of India. On the first day, there will be a spectacular palace procession from the royal residence at the City Palace to Manek Chowk, accompanied by bedded horses and royal bands. After which the effigy of Holika is burnt, this festival started with the burning of Holika and is celebrated in the Jagdish temple of Udaipur.

6. GOA HOLI FESTIVAL

Holi festival in Goa is also known as Shigmo and this festival is celebrated with great pomp and show. Holi festival is celebrated in Goa with color music, pool party, DJ party, and dance, which makes it one of the best places in India to celebrate Holi.
