The Palace on Wheels train is being run for the last 40 years. Started in 1982 this train is India’s first luxury heritage train. The coaches of the train have been constructed in the royal style, which was originally the private railway coaches of the then rulers of Rajputana and other princely states. The coach of the train has been designed keeping in mind the culture and heritage of Rajasthan.

Tourism begins in the month of October in Rajasthan. Tourism has suffered a lot in the last two years due to the pandemic. In such a situation, it is feared that more and more passengers will be able to take the vanity of tourism through the Palace on Wheels train.

The Royal train - Palace on Wheels, which has been closed since 18TH March 2020 due to Corona, will once again run on the tracks. The Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation (RTDC) will start the royal train by the end of September. For the very first trip on the train, more than 200 people have booked through RTDC. With this all its seats are full. Now online booking is being done for the next trip on the train.

The renovation work of the train is going on which will be completed by 20th September. In such a situation, there is a possibility that this train can be operated in the last week of next month. This train will travel a total of 3,000 kilometers in seven days and eight nights in its journey. During this, passengers will be taken to different tourist places in Rajasthan. The Palace on Wheels train departs from New Delhi Railway Station and covers many heritage places in Rajasthan including Jaipur, Sawai Madhopur, Udaipur, Jaisalmer, and Jodhpur.

Apart from luxurious rooms, the Palace on Wheels train also has a spa, bar, laundry, gym, and salon facilities. From simple to deluxe rooms are also present on the train. There are other facilities including internet, TV, etc. Along with Indian food, Rajasthani, Mughlai, Chinese, Thai and Mexican food is also made available to travelers. The fare for a single night of a passenger on the train is fixed at Rs 55 thousand. During the off-season, the charges are close to 43,000. The maximum fare of the same train is Rs 1.54 lakh. Children up to 5 years can travel for free whereas, half of the fare is charged if the child is between 5- to 10-year-old. Lodging and meals are counted in the charges itself. Apart from this, you have to pay a separate fee for other facilities including other facilities like a spa and bar.

The Palace on Wheels will be run on the ‘Operation and Maintenance model’ under the Bharat Gaurav Train Policy of the Indian Railways from 2022-23. It will be operated through a private partnership. Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation (RTDC) will get the fixed amount for this, but the ownership of the train will remain with RTDC.
