People from all over the world prepare
throughout the year to see the Ganga Aarti. The Gangotri Glacier in the
Himalayas is the origin of the Ganges River. It runs across northern India and
splits into two rivers, the Hooghly in West Bengal and the Padma in Bangladesh.
The Ganges flows through several cities which include Haridwar, Rishikesh,
Varanasi, and Allahabad. These are the prominent cities where you can experience
the divinity of Ganga Aarti. The Ganga Ghats in these cities are some of the
most religiously important places and tourist spots. These can also be included
in your North India pilgrimage.
1. HARIDWAR
Har-ki-Pauri Ghat Haridwar hosts the
Ganga Aarti. The name of this famous ghat roughly translates as Feet of the
Lord. There is a stone wall believed to have the footprint of Lord Vishnu.
According to mythology, this is the place where some nectar fell from the urn
brought by Garuda, the bird of heaven. The main aarti of Maa Ganga can be
booked online for Rs.2,100. There are many ways to watch the Aarti, which
differ depending on how you want to watch it. It's easier to just sit on the
stairs and watch it from afar, as most visitors do. Depending on your luck, you
may be able to hold one of the lights. Watching this ancient practice can
become a profound experience for you.

saffron robes erect massive brass lanterns. The Ganga Aarti begins with the
blowing of a conch shell (shankh), which is to cleanse negative energy and
improve your senses. The air at Dashashwamedh Ghat is filled with the fragrance
of sandalwood. People start gathering early to secure a good viewing spot for

before the last stage of the event, which is the lighting of lamps and aarti.
