RARE COINCIDENCE IN SAWAN MONTH AFTER 19 YEARS
Shravan or
Sawan is the fifth month of the year according to the Hindu calendar, which
falls in the month of July or August of the Christian calendar. It is also
called the month of rainy season or 'Pavas Ritu' because it rains a lot at
this time. Many important festivals are celebrated in this month, in which
'Hariyali Teej', 'Rakshabandhan', 'Nagpanchami' etc. are prominent. 'Shravan
Purnima' is celebrated as 'Nariyali Purnima' and 'Avani Avittam' in South
India, 'Kajri Poonam' in Central India, 'Rakshabandhan' in North India, and
'Pavitropana' in Gujarat. The diversity of festivals is the hallmark of India's
uniqueness. There is special importance in worshiping Lord Shiva in the month
of 'Shravan' i.e., Sawan. The Mondays falling in this month are called "Mondays
of Sawan", in which women and especially unmarried girls keep fast etc.
for the sake of Lord Shiva.
This year
2023, the thirteenth month of the Hindu calendar is coming, which we call
Adhikamas. Due to this Adhikamas, Sawan will last for about 2 months, which
will be of 59 days. The special thing about all these things is that this rare
coincidence is happening after 19 years. In the month of Sawan, Lord Shankar
should be worshiped with his family members. 'Rudrabhishek' of Lord Shiva has
special significance in this month. That's why 'Rudrabhishek' can be done every
day in this month, while in other months the auspicious time of Shivvas has to
be observed. Lord Shiva's Rudrabhishek is bathed with water, milk, curd, pure
ghee, honey, sugar or sugar, Gangajal, sugarcane juice, etc. After
consecration, Lord Shiva is pleased with Belpatra, Shamipatra, Kusha, Doob, etc. In the end, cannabis, dhatura, and quince are offered to Bholenath as bhog.
SAWAN MONDAY FAST
On every
Monday of the month of Shravan, fasting is done for Shiva. There is a special
method of worshiping Lord Shiva in this month. Some devotees worship Lord Shiva
and observe fast for the entire month. Most people fast only on Mondays
falling in the month of Shravan. Shiva's fasts, worship, and Shiva's aarti have
special importance on the Mondays of the month of Shravan. These fasts of Shiva
are auspicious and fruitful. Lord Shiva is very pleased with all the devotees
who observe these fasts. This fast is done for the pleasure of Lord Shiva. In
the fast, after worshiping Lord Shiva, food is eaten only at one time. During
the fast, one should worship Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati while chanting
'Shiva Panchakshar Mantra'.
Monday is
important in the month of Sawan. Monday's number is 2, which represents the
moon. The moon is the symbol of the mind and it sits on the head of Lord Shiva.
'Chandrama Manaso Jatah' means 'the Moon is the master of the mind' and it has
an important contribution in its control and regulation. That is, Lord Shankar
controls the moon on the head and concentrates the mind of the said seeker or
devotee, and frees him from the illusion of ignorance. By the grace of Lord
Shankar, the devotee attains Trigunateet feeling and this proves to be the main
basis of his liberation from birth and death.
KANWAR
It is a
belief that Shiva is pleased and fulfills the wishes of the devotees by being
anointed with the water of the holy rivers of India. 'Kanwar' is derived from
the Sanskrit word 'Kavanrathi'. It is a type of bahangi, which is made from
bamboo strips. 'Kanwar' is formed when loads of Gangajal are placed in pots
with Vedic rituals on both sides decorated with flower garlands, bells, and
ghungroos. The fragrance of incense lamp, the slogan of 'Bol Bam' in the mouth,
'Baba Ek Sahara' in the mind. It is believed that the first 'Kanwariya' was
Ravana. Shri Ram also offered Kanwar to Lord Shiva.
