Lord Ganesha removes all obstacles in life. Sakat Chauth fast of Magh month is
mainly observed by women to pray for the long life of their children. It is

attains happiness and prosperity in life. It is believed that Lord Ganesha
circumambulated Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva on the day of Sakat Chauth, due
to which this fast has special significance.
SAKAT CHAUTH PUJA METHOD
Worship Lord
Ganesha with the Shodshopachar method using scent, Akshat, flowers, incense,
lamp, naivedya, seasonal fruits, etc., and also offer Arghya to the Moon. ‘Om
Chandraya Namah’ while offering Arghya to the Moon. ‘Om Somay Namah’.
One should keep reciting the mantra. On this day, fasting people especially
wait for the rise of the moon. For those fasting, if possible, make ten great
donations which include donation of food, donation of salt, donation of
jaggery, donation of gold, donation of sesame seeds, donation of clothes,
donation of cow dung, donation of gems, donation of silver, and donation of
tenth sugar. By doing this the living being can get freedom from the poison of
sorrow, poverty, debt, disease, and insult.
Even if all
these donations are not possible, by donating only a pinda (mountain) made of
sesame seeds and jaggery, one can become eligible for the blessings of Lord
Ganesha to achieve the desired task and remove the troubles. There is no fear
of untimely death by feeding jaggery to cows and elephants on this day.
Students can attain sharp intelligence and knowledge by chanting ‘Om Gan
Ganpataye Namah’ 108 times on the day of Ganesh Chaturthi. ‘Om Ek Dantay
Vidmahe Vakratundaya Dhi Mahi Tanno Dantih Prachodayat’. Chanting will
remove all the troubles and work obstacles in life.
OFFER TILKUT BHOG TO LORD GANESHA
On the day

by mixing white sesame and jaggery. After this, Tilkut is offered to Lord
Ganesha during the puja and then it is distributed as Prasad among the family
members. Lord Ganesha, Mother Gauri, and Moon are worshiped on the day of Sakat
Chaturthi. This fast is broken only after offering Arghya to the Moon.
RULES OF SAKAT CHAUTH FAST
Worship is
done in the evening during Sakat Chauth. Then Arghya is offered to the moon.
This fast is not considered complete without offering Arghya. While fasting on
Sakat Chauth, there is a tradition to worship Gauri Ganesha made of clay. According
to religious beliefs, Lord Shiva says that those who worship the Sankat Mochan
form of Ganapati on this day, all their troubles will be resolved.
On Sakat
Chauth, sesame seeds are roasted and mixed with jaggery to make Tilkuta i.e. a
mountain of Tilkut. At many places, sesame laddus are made and offered as
prasad. On the day of Sakat Chauth, Gauri, Ganesha, and Moon are offered sesame,
reed, shankarkand, guava, jaggery, and ghee. According to religious beliefs, by
offering these things to Lord Ganesha, all tasks become successful and
