TALLEST STATUES OF GODS IN INDIA
Our country
is proud of huge statues and is on its way to making them even better. Many of
these statues in India claim to be the tallest statues in the world in their
respective regions. Apart from the political, and religious context of these
sculptures in India, they are also a rich heritage to be proud of. Being a
spectacular site to behold, these places are often frequented by locals and
tourists. Today, in this article we will tell you about the tallest god statues
in India.
1. PARITALA ANJANEYA TEMPLE, VIJAYAWADA
The Veera
Abhanya Hanuman Swamy idol located in the town of Paritala near Vijayawada in Andhra
Pradesh; is the tallest Hanuman temple in the world. Standing at a height of
135 ft (41 m), the statue was installed in the year 2003. At the base of the statue,
you can also see a small Hanuman temple called Parital Anjaneya temple.
2. THIRUVALLUVAR STATUE, KANYAKUMARI
Thiruvalluvar
was a great writer in the world of literature, best known for Tirukkural, the classic
Tamil text. In his devotion, work on the statue began in 1990 and was finally
completed in the year 1999. The monument stands at a height of 133 ft and is
situated on a 38 ft plinth.
3. TATHAGATA TSAL, SOUTH SIKKIM
Tathagata
Tsal, better known as Buddha Park of Ravangala, is a beautiful park located
at Ravangala (Rabong) in the South Sikkim district, Sikkim. The main attraction of
the park is the magnificent statue of Buddha installed as the centerpiece with
a height of 130 feet (40 m).
4. DHYANA BUDDHA STATUE, ANDHRA PRADESH
Located in Amaravati,
Andhra Pradesh Dhyana Buddha Statue is the tallest Buddha statue in India. The
work on this huge statue with a height of 125 feet, started in 2003 and got
completed in 2015. The Dhyana Buddha statue was created by R. Mallikarjuna Rao,
Joint Director of Social Welfare, Guntur.
5. MURUDESHWAR TEMPLE, MURUDESHWAR
This grand
temple located in Karnataka is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple boasts the second-tallest statue of Lord Shiva in the world, and the sheer grandeur of
the statue will fill you with awe. The entrance to the main temple, also known
as the 'Gopura', is situated at a height of 123 feet and you can get a breathtaking
view of the Shiva idol from the top of the Gopura.
6. ADIYOGI SHIVA STATUE, COIMBATORE
Located at
the Isha Yoga Complex in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, this idol stands at a height
of 112 feet. The Guinness World Book of Records recognized the statue as the ‘Largest
Bust Sculpture’, which is 45 m long and 7.62 m wide, excluding the 34.3 m high
plinth. Built by Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, the founder of the Isha Foundation, the
statue was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 24 February 2017.
This statue was built to inspire and promote yoga, and the statue is called
"Adiyoga". Lord Shiva as ‘First Yogi’ means the originator of Yoga.
7. JAKHOO TEMPLE, SHIMLA
Situated
amidst lush green land on Jakhoo hill, the highest point in Shimla, Jakhoo Temple
is an ancient site steeped in legends and offers a mystical vibe to visitors. Jakhoo Temple is dedicated to Lord – Hanuman. The site is one of the
most visited tourist attractions in Shimla, which attracts tourists of all ages
and religions apart from Hindu pilgrims and devotees. It is located in the
center of Shimla at a distance of about 2 kilometers from The Ridge, a journey
of about 30 minutes. The construction of the Hanuman statue is an amazing piece
of engineering as it becomes the tallest statue in the world at a height of
8000 feet, surpassing the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro which is
30 meters tall at a height of 700 meters. Jakhoo Temple According to legend,
Lord Hanuman stayed at this place to rest before starting his search for the
Sanjivani Booti to revive Lord Lakshmana. Your trip to Shimla would be
