KAAS PLATEAU REOPENS ITS SAFARI AFTER SIX MONTHS

Kaas Plateau, located in the Satara district of Maharashtra, is a UNESCO heritage site. Its beauty and magnificent biodiversity can fascinate anyone. So far, about 624 rare species of flowers have been discovered all over the world. It is claimed that out of these, about 39 species are found only in the Kaas Plateau. Especially between June and October, when the monsoon is in full swing, the entire area of the Kaas Plateau keeps changing its color every 15-20 days. More than 850 flower species are found in the Kaas plateau region. Among these, many types of flowers are not found anywhere else in the world.

Kaas Plateau is a very picturesque place located at a distance of 25 kilometers from Satara, 37 kilometers from Mahabaleshwar, and 50 kilometers from Panchgani. Because of its natural beauty and biodiversity, UNESCO declared it a World Natural Heritage Site in 2012. Situated about 140 kilometers from Pune, this plateau blooms with spectacular flowers in August and September. More than eight hundred species of flowers are found here. This plateau is spread over an area of approximately one thousand hectares.

The Kaas Plateau is adjacent to the Koyna Wildlife Sanctuary. There is also a gorgeous lake here. There is hardly three cm thin soil on this plateau. There is a stone beneath it. It rains a lot here. Because of the crowd, the government has fixed the number here at three thousand per day. The flowers and other species of plants found here are very valuable. It is also known as the Valley of Flowers. There are many types of vegetation on this plateau and Kaas Lake, which are not found anywhere else. A large number of botanists are seen here. From the tourism point of view, September-October is considered best here.

Agarkar Research Institute, established as an autonomous institute of the Department of Science and Technology, in collaboration with the Center for Earth Sciences, Thiruvananthapuram, made the sediments of a lake located here the focus of its research to understand the past climate of the Kaas Plateau. This involved the dating of sediment profiles spanning eight thousand years. This dating has given many indications of climate change.

After being closed for the last several months, Kas Pathar Day Safari located in Satara district of Maharashtra has again been opened for tourists. Let us tell you, that the Kas Plateau of Maharashtra is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which is very popular among tourists. Kaas Plateau Day Safari has been closed since last June and has been reopened after about 6 months. According to information received from media reports, there was a huge loss of income due to the closure of Kas Plateau Day Safari, regarding which the Kas Plateau Executive Committee had also expressed its concern. The resumption of Kaas Pathar Day Safari also provides new employment opportunities to the local people. It is said that only because of the day safari, about 20 youths of the surrounding area get employment. The work of these youth includes wildlife control, maintenance of artificial water holes, night patrolling, and curbing incidents of illegal hunting, etc.

HOW TO BOOK KAAS PLATEAU JUNGLE SAFARI

Booking of Kaas Plateau Jungle Safari can be done online. For this, you will have to go to the website of the Kaas Plateau Committee. For jungle safari, a fee of ₹ 4000 will have to be paid per jeep. Tourists who book will be given an open Bolero jeep to seat 8 people. Jungle safari will be conducted from 6.30 to 9.30 in the evening and from 9.30 to 12.30 at night. This fee will include the fare of the jeep, driver, and guide. All Indian and foreign tourists must carry an identity card while on safari. 

HOW TO REACH KAAS PLATEAU

It is very easy to reach Kaas Plateau from Mumbai and Pune. This place is located at a distance of about 25 km from Satara district headquarters. It may take 2.5 to 3.5 hours to reach Kaas Plateau from Pune. Kaas Plateau is 136 km from Pune. This place is 278 km away from Mumbai. It may take around 5 hours to reach Kaas from Mumbai via Mumbai-Pune Expressway and NH4. If you want to come here by bus instead of by car, then you will get an overnight bus from Mumbai to Satara.
