How international travel after lockdown will be different

As most countries around the world are under complete lockdown to stop the spread of coronavirus, a number of industries have been hit hard. But the worst affected by the lockdown is the travel industry. According to the latest reports and surveys show that international travel may not be able to recover that well after the lockdown has been lifted. Though governments around the world are assuring that they will restore the economy once it is safe, but life post lockdown lies in uncertainty and according to experts, restoring the economy might be very difficult

Surveys are not positive for travel industry

In a recent survey done by Statista, it was revealed how travel industry may suffer; especially international travel, based on the fear instilled in the hearts of the general public. Through the survey, it can be concluded that a number of people will travel after the lockdown has been lifted but they were doubtful over travelling abroad.

Another survey by McKinsey among US consumers, showed that the effect of this pandemic on international travel will be lasting.

International travel may take a while to recover

When people were questioned about travelling to different countries post lockdown, 18% of the people said that they would be travelling more to foreign countries, while 37% said that they might not travel to foreign countries as often as they used to.

However, when asked about travelling within their home country, 25% of the people said that they would travel more while 27% were even doubtful of travelling on a domestic level.

Other leisure activities might suffer too

These surveys also reflected that over 29% of the respondents in the survey said that they will also bring down the frequency of leisure activities that might take them to a crowded place. They would not go to movies, concerts, events or even shopping places as often as they used to before the lockdown.

Despite that, there is a silver lining, atleast for the travel industry in the UK, as over 53% of the people there said that they will start leisure travelling once the lockdown is lifted and the government allows them to do so.
