Supreme court of India has been requested through a PIL, filed to issue directions to the Central Government and the aviation regulator DGCA, ensuring that airlines refund full amount of the tickets cancelled due to the lockdown enforced to contain the spread of COVID-19 in India. As per the orders of the CM of Uttarakhand, Trivendra Singh Rawat, the Kedarnath temple has been opened up for local tourists from May 4. The pilgrims can also visit other Himalayan temples within the state. On Sunday, Railways have announced that they will slowly restart the operations of passenger trains on 12th May. The railway services had been suspended for almost two months due to the lockdown that was enforced to contain the spread of coronavirus. The decision to resume passenger train operations was taken on Saturday in a meeting of Cabinet Secretary and the government, both central and states. The sources also told the media that the final draft was prepared on Sunday evening. Railways have provided various services throughout the lockdown. The council also estimated that over a third of these jobs or 100 million positions, and $2.7 trillion in GDP could be at risk due to the current crisis. Countries whose GDP majorly depends on the tourism industry will be the worst hit. Among small and developing island states, even 25% decrease in tourism could cut off up to 7% of GDP. This could go down to up to 16% in places like Maldives and Seychelles, according to the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development.
IRCTC has cancelled all booking of regular trains, Shramik and special trains excluded, up till 30th June due to the coronavirus pandemic. The railway will refund the full amount of the ticket to everyone who had booked the tickets. The Shramik and Special passenger trains will continue operations as planned. As per the railways, the refund will be provided to those with effect from 21st March. The railway board issued an order on 13th May that included waiting list provision on the special passenger trains from 22nd May.
Air India has started booking in 14th May on some repatriation flights for the second phase of the Vande Bharat Mission. The flights would travel from India to the USA, the UK, Australia, Frankfurt, Paris and Singapore. Only the citizens of these countries will be eligible to book tickets. For some flights people holding a valid visa of the country will also be eligible. The reservation facility and eligibility criteria are available on the Air India website (http://www.airindia.in), the national carrier posted on twitter.
Lufthansa Group is planning to restart flight operations in to 130 destinations by the end of June. From 1st June, Airline Lufthansa Euro wings and Swiss will start services to a select few destinations. These flight operations will resume from Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh and Dublin to Frankfurt Zurich, Dusseldorf, Hamburg, Stuttgart and Cologne. The airlines will also increase the flight operation frequency from London Heathrow. The group will offer 63 departures weekly from next month.
