Effect of Coronavirus on Japan

After the announcement of the travel subsidy, Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe lifted the emergency in Tokyo and four others areas, that were too under strict emergency state.  The Japanese Prime Minister has said that emergency has been lifted to celebrate the success of Japan in the battle against coronavirus. The counter has had 16,433 cases of the coronavirus and 784 people lost their lives to the disease.

Japan became the centre of the first outbreak outside China when the Diamond Cruise incident happened on February 3. All the passengers aboard the ship were quarantined at the Yokohama coast. A total of 3711 passengers and crew members were aboard the cruise, which included 1281 Japanese nationals and 1045 crew members. 705 of the total passengers were tested positive.

Travel subsidy only for domestic travellers

In the earlier announcements, it was not quite clear whether the scheme was for international travellers or domestic travellers. But in a series of tweets by the travel agency, it has been made clear that the facility is only for Japanese travellers.

According to a 2018 survey, around 82% of the travel GDP of the country depends on domestic travellers. To bring that back on track, the Japanese government has introduced this special scheme. The domestic travel will restart with this scheme by July. There is still no announcement as to when the ountry might welcome tourists from overseas
