Today, 7th May, you can get to admire and photograph the last Super Flower Moon of the year - 2020. This is the 4th super moon of the year since February. Not just that, it is also the longest super moon that will be visible this season. It has been visible from 5th May and will be in its full luminous form till early morning of 8th May.

A super moon is 14 percent larger and 30% brighter than the full moon we usually happen. This happens when the moon is closest to earth, in its orbit.

With the lockdown all travel has been banned and we cannot go out. But that has led to huge dip in the levels of air pollution making skies clearer than ever before. So we can enjoy some beautiful sights like never before from our roofs and balconies. Capture some great photographs as happy memories of these tough times.

The Significance of the Super Flower Moon

A Super Flower Moon was named so by the people of a Native American Tribe of the Northeastern USA, as it appears in spring when the flowers bloom. In India, it is known as the Vaishakha Moon, named after the month Vaishakha of the Hindu lunar calendar.

The Super Flower Moon also corresponds to Buddha Purnima, the birthday of Gautama Buddha - the spiritual teacher of Buddhists. Purnima means the night of full moon.

Best time to watch the Super Flower Moon

The Super Flower moon would be at its best at 6:45 A.M. EDT i.e. is 4:15 P.M. IST. It might be possible that you will not be able to enjoy the celestial body's beauty at its peak as in India it might not be that dark yet, so you can watch the live event through 'Virtual Telescope'.
