UNWTO lauches online campaign #TravelTomorrow

In the response to travel lockdown due to COVID-19 pandemic, the United Nations World Tourism Organisation has launched a #TravelTomorrow campaign. The phrase would highlight the values of tourism, becoming a common thread in response to the current crisis. The core values of tourism like discovering different cultures, practising solidarity and respect, caring for the environment, continuing to learn, fostering decent work, development and sustainability and generating new opportunities for all, will be the pillars of the campaign.

Purpose of the #TravelTomorrow

The hashtag #travelTomorrow holds the message of solidarity and hope through which the UNWTO calls for a shared responsibility of the travellers and travel and tourism agencies from around the world to deal with and get through the pandemic. 


This campaign has been embraced by a number of countries, destinations, travel agencies, cities, media outlets and travels from around the world. #TravelTomorrow is showing a visible impact on social media as well. Morocco, Germany, Mongolia, Uruguay and Oman are the countries that have endorsed the hashtag. Some cities like Vienna and Bogota have also become a part of it, thus showing that the tourism sector from around the world is united to face this unprecedented worldwide crisis. 


A digital platform with elements such as images for social media profiles, electronic signatures and relevant audio-visual content on tourism and coronavirus has been prepared to provide different options for individuals, businesses or institutions to join the initiative.

Views of UNWTO for tourism after COVID-19

In his speech, UNWTO Secretary General, Zurab Pololikashvili pointed out, "Historically, tourism has proven itself as a key driver of international recovery, and as early as now, we must begin to prepare in order to build the foundations of the future resilience of tourism". He also added, “Our response must be fast, coherent and united so that we can all travel again soon and do so in a safer, more sustainable and more respectful way, learning from the lessons of the current crisis”


The global tourism crisis committee that was headed by the UNWTO supported the recommendations developed to address the crisis. The need for financial and political support for the recovery of the tourism sector, in order to mitigate the effect of COVID-19 on employment, protection of vulnerable segments of society and speeding up the recovery of the industry in coordination with international development organisations.
