Uttarakhand Government reopens Kedarnath temple for local pilgrims

As per the orders of the CM of Uttarakhand, Trivendra Singh Rawat, the Kedarnath temple has been opened up for local tourists from May 4. The pilgrims can also visit other Himalayan temples within the state.

As no case of COVID-19 has been reported, the three districts of Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand, which is home to the famous northern Char Dhams, Kedarnath, Badrinatth, Gangotri and Yamunotri, they fall under the green zone.

Orders on inter district travel by state government

According to the Uttarakhand CM, the state government has permitted travel within the state with certain rules to be followed; mostly in the green zone district. CM has urged the people to follow social distancing, despite the relaxation.

While answering to the question of when the pilgrims from other states will be allowed to visit the pilgrimages sites, CM Trivendra Singh Rawat said that COVID-19 stands as the biggest hurdle in letting tourists from other states travel to Uttarakhand and the state government is waiting for the situation to come back to normal. 

The three districts are now in Green Zone

Gangotri and Yamunotri temples are situated in the Uttarkashi District; Kedarnath is located in Rudraprayag while Badrinath is in the Chamoli District of Uttarakhand.  The three districts have now been announced as green zones.

Every year, Kedarnath and Badrinath opened for the pilgrims in quick succession, but due to COVID-19, this year the scenes were a bit different. The Kedarnath Temple opened up on April 29 while Badrinath will reopen on May 15. Gangotri and Yamunotri temples were reopened by April 26.
