Travel expert calls 14-days quarantine rule for travellers 'useless'

Lockdown, travel restrictions and travel related though have a devastating effect on the travel and tourism industry, but the 14 days quarantine rule, implemented by the UK, Spain and other countries around Europe, useless as it might jeopardise the holiday plan of many.

This 14 days rule also points that the global tourism would not return to normal or as it were in 2019 anytime soon. On an estimate, British people spent over £4.8 billion on international trips, but this year tourists travelling overseas will need to take three weeks off from work for a week's trip.

The number of international air travellers will take longer to recover

According to the expert from IATA (International Air Transport Association), the number of international air travellers will take longer to recover if the lockdown restriction including quarantine rules is followed too long. The association has also predicted that the regular demands of air travel would not return till 2023.

The General Director and CEO of IATA, Alexander de Juniac, in his recent interview said that in Europe flights will make a comeback over the summers. He also added that they are asking the government to restart the air travel with a phased approach.

It is becoming necessary for tourism sector to restart business

Alexander de Juniac said in the interview, “We are aiming at reopening and boosting the domestic market by the end of the second quarter, and opening the regional or continental markets — such as Europe, North America or Asia-Pacific — by the third quarter, and intercontinental in the fall. So for summer we hope that you will see flights within Europe coming back, with I hope interesting prices and very safe processes of control.”

Though the travel industry is trying to make a comeback, the 14 days quarantine rule imposed by various countries in Europe and globally, might be a big challenge. De Juniac also warned that that it is becoming necessary for tourism sector to restart business and for them the quarantine rule can prove to be "useless"
