A new health advisory issued by Kerala: Rules tourists must know

As the number of COVID-19 case drastically increase in Kerala, the state's government have announced a new set of guidelines for travellers visiting the state for a short period. According to these new sets of guidelines, no tourist will be allowed to stay for more than week in the southern side of the state.

The visitors need to submit their itinerary, purpose of travel, accommodation details and contact person with the State Government before their arrival. All passengers must be registered on Jagratha portal, a COVID-19 portal by the Kerala Government, and also obtain an entry pass for their visit. The short visit will be approved by district collectors after reviewing the details submitted.

The SOP and health advisory issued by the Kerala Government

  • The tourists visiting for a short trip must have a pass that can be collected after registering to the COVID-19 portals.
  • The tourist should directly go to their hotel. They are not permitted to meet anyone or take a halt between the airport, station or bus stand and their hotel.
  • Visitors must not visit any other place or person than the ones mentioned in their submitted itinerary. Visiting public places and hospitals is strictly prohibited.
  • The tourists should avoid contact with people of age above 65 or kids below 10.
  • Students coming to the state for exams must not leave their rooms for any purpose other than approved ones.
  • While in Kerala, all travellers must follow COVID-19 advisory like social distancing, wearing facemasks and gloves, and frequent hand washing. They must also carry a sanitizer and extra masks and gloves.
  • They must resort to room services or home delivery to avoid going out.
  • Tourists must inform the concerned authorities if they wish to extend their stay in Kerala, with a valid reason.
  • If they develop any symptoms such as sore throat, diarrhea, fever, cough or breathlessness, even mild, during their stay, they must call DISH helpline 1056 and stay in.
  • The symptomatic tourist will be moved to the COVID-19 treatment centre and undergo testing. Further arrangements shall be made based on the results.
  • If the tourist is tested positive within 14 days of their visit, they must immediately inform the state control room at once.
  • If any tourist fails to abide by these rules, he/she shall undergo 14 days institutional or paid quarantine.
