The security check process has now become longer, as it includes extra precautionary measures due to the COVID-19. The Indira Gandhi International Airport has come up with ways to speed up the process from September 2020.

Security checks per hour will double

According to the reports, the airport is going to be equipped with 10 Automatic Tray Retrieval Systems, which are roller-based set-up that would automatically put the trays to their place once the passengers collected their luggage and belonging after the security check.

Senior airport personnel said this new technique would help reduce the number of staff that were required to put trays at the initial place. This would help the CISF frisk twice the number of passengers it does right now. Currently, they manually frisk around 180 to 200 passengers at the IGI airport.

According to MA Ganapathy, Special Director General of CISF, once the new system is installed the number of passengers frisked per hour can go up to 300-350 per hour. The airport's operators Delhi International Airport LTD. and the CISF are helping in the installation of the ATRS system.

ATRS will help passengers too

ATRS will also be helpful to passengers as they would not have to wait from trays and get them for others, as these trays would be continuously circulating across the belt. The trays would be equipped with radio - frequency tags and will be under CCTV camera vigilance.

In the statement issued by DIAL, for now, there will be 10 ATRS in the domestic area of terminal 3. However, more would be added to other terminals across the airport.

Reportedly, 12 lanes will be installed on the international zone of terminal 3 and 24 lanes in terminal 1.
