These tourist destinations have a special offer for travellers
Travellers are eager to travel again, but they're not the only ones. Tourist destinations are equally eager to have them back. And they’re trying to do that by offering incentives and interesting offers to kick start their tourism industry after a long halt. As countries ease the lockdown rules, keeping the safety of its citizens in mind, they're also focused on the economy that has crashed due to all industrial work coming to a sudden halt with the lockdown. So, the countries whose GDP highly depends on tourism are working to get it back on track.
Here is a list of destinations coming up with interesting schemes to attract travellers.
Free flights to Las Vegas
Yes, you read it right. A hotel CEO and developer in Las Vegas has offered a special giveaway of 1,000 free flight tickets to the city, which might reopen in June. The owner of two hotel casinos, the D Las Vegas and the Golden Gate, Derek Stevens, said that this would help bring back tourists to the city and also tell them that they can have a lot of fun there.
“As we begin to reopen our doors across the city, we are proud to help reinvigorate travel to Las Vegas while supporting airlines in America impacted by the COVID-19 crisis,” Stevens said in the announcement. He also added they cannot wait to welcome tourists again and tell them why Las Vegas was titled 'Entertainment Capital of the World'.
Cyprus has got you covered
The Mediterranean island nation Cyprus has announced that they will cover treatment cost if a traveller gets infected by the coronavirus on their trip in the country. According to the letter sent out to the governments, tour operators and airlines, the officials have pledged to cover “lodging, food, drink and medication for covid-19 patients and their families" while they are on the island.
The 13% of the economy of the country depends on the tourism, and as the country was one of the least affected by the pandemic in Europe, they plan to restart tourism by June 9. Visitors will have to sign a "COVID-19 Traveller Declaration" and will have to take precautions like wear mask and get random temperature checks throughout their stay.
Discounts and vouchers in Japan
According to the data, there was 99.9% drop in the number of tourists coming to Japan in April, compared to the same time last year. To bring back the tourism, Japanese travel agencies have announced to offer special discount and vouchers. The sad part is that it is only for domestic travellers, as 82% of the total travel GDP of the country comes from domestic tourism.
The Japanese government will subsidise the travel expenses starting July. The officials have said that they would cover travel expenses and also offer special vouchers that could be used at local shops, this would encourage tourist exploration. These special offers will be for travellers who book their trip through Japanese Travel Agencies or directly to Ryokan inns.
Sicily will split the bill
Sicily, a popular tourist destination in Italy has offered to share the hotel, flight ticket price with travellers who intend to visit the island this autumn. It was the first destination to announce an offer of this kind. The Italian Government will pay half of your flight ticket price and hotel bill of every third night. It will also offer free entry into some of the museums and archaeological sites.
Sicily has suffered a loss of $1.09 billion since the lockdown was enforced in Italy in March. The tourist island is hoping that this scheme will help bring back the tourists. The scheme will cost the government around 50 million Euros, but they’re hopeful that the tourists will return as soon as the borders reopen.
